Our story
Kileleshwa Covenant Community Church (K3C) was replanted on January 6th 2008 as a result of a merger between Kileleshwa Community Church (KCC) and The Covenant Church (TCC).
Two Branches, One Root
Though K3C was replanted through a merger of two churches, what is unique is that these two (KCC and TCC) all find their original root in the Nairobi Baptist Church.
KCC Branch
KCC was planted by the Nairobi Baptist Church in 1987 within the Kileleshwa community with the aim of reaching out to the Senior Government Officials who were living in the area.
The Church first met at Kileleshwa Primary for 1 year, then moved to Kenton College for another 2 years and finally to Jacaranda Special School where they met until 1990.
They church building was completed in 2002.
TCC Branch
TCC was planted by Nairobi Chapel Church in August of 2005. The Church was planted along the Waiyaki Way highway with the aim of reaching Parklands, Westlands and Kileleshwa and its environs.
The planting church, Nairobi Chapel was replanted by Nairobi Baptist Church in 1987.
The Chapel at that point in time was a dying brethren church, the leaders sought the help of Nairobi Baptist in reviving the church.
In turn Nairobi Baptist Sent Pastor Oscar Muriu to lead the church. Seventeen years later the Chapel had grown from 27 people to a strong and vibrant congregation of over 3000.
The TCC was planted as a result of this growth.
The Church met at Hospital Hill Primary School for 1 year and there after mostly at the Holiday Inn Hotel but on occasion moved around. They were fondly referred to as “the Church on the Move”.
The Merger
In early 2007, KCC was in decline and desperately needed Pastors. The leaders took the bold step of seeking help from Nairobi Baptist Church.
Nairobi Baptist upon realizing that this was a common problem affecting most of its daughter churches called a meeting was called comprising of all the daughter churches.
The need for Pastors at KCC was floated by the KCC Elders.
Pastor Oscar noted that Nairobi Chapel had a daughter church in Westlands that had 5 pastors but no venue and thus were meeting in a hotel.
KCC had a venue but no pastors.
The merger talks were birthed in March of 2007.
After one year of talking (what was referred to as the “courtship” period), Kileleshwa Covenant Community Church was born on January 2008.
New Beginnings
In January of 2011 the church transitioned into a Cell-Based Church.
On February 6th, TANDAZA GROUPS (T-groups) were launched. With this move, 55% of the congregation moved into groups, up from 10%.
The Church divided the Community into 3 Districts, each overseen by a District Pastor; each District has Zones, which comprise of 5 T-Groups.
K3C has continued to experience growth in attendance and has grown steadily from about 120 people in 2008 to an average of 400 attending on Sunday.
